Unit 19686
Category: Layer dug in 2011
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: clay surrounding timber post
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: post; Material: pise-like
Discussion: Unit is a deposit of friable pale orange clay surrounding 19680 a circular timber post located in the line running NS of box timber posts, circular posts, and molded clay posts in the W. timber partition wall. This in tact clay represents a molded base/support intended to keep the post in line. The post and the three other box timber posts have this orange clay in tact, while the other circular posts near the ends do not. This suggests that the end circular posts were less well preserved and perhaps even ripped out, thus dislodging the molded clay. This clay and associated post is located about 6 cm from the box timber post directly south and about 4 cm from the circular posts to the north.
