Unit 19853

Category: Cut    dug in 2013

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Post retrieval pit

Data Category Information: Description: pit

Discussion: Pasted discussion field in layer 19852 (fill)

- The oblong and lobed shape seems to be result of two events:
1) a round pit at the base of the pillar in the middle of the West-wall (EW: 70 cm; NS: 85 cm; D: 11-12 cm). Steep and stepped sides.
2) an oval pit extending East of the round pit (EW: 78 cm; NS: 60 cm; D: between 1-5 cm). Gradual sides.

- The pit 1) is interpreted as a post retrieving pit because of the connection to the pillar. The pit 2) is interpreted as retrieval pit of make-up material.

- This unit was overexcavated, because the fill of the pit is identical to the unit underneath. The bottom of the pit was therefore inferred on the depth of the make-up floor 19856 and 19857.

- Sequence of events is as follows: post retrieval pit was dug ( 1), the western part of 19852), then the big pit 19863 along the whole West-wall was dug and the pit 2), the eastern part of 19852, was dug. That would mean that the estern pit cut the post retrieving pit at the west.

Shape: Oval shape. Narrower in the middle part

Sides: In the western part: vertical to the north and south-east sides, stepped to the south-western side. In the eastern part: vertical at the north-western side, gradual at the northern side, gradual and stepped at the southern side.

Base Break: Sharp

Base: unidentified because overexcavated
