Unit 20054

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Remnant eroded floor

Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted

Description: Compound remnant eroded floor and makeup layers located on top of second layer of plaster beneath plaster floor layer u.20053, and appears to be remnant from previous excavations (2013).

Discussion: Unit was recognized as plaster floor layer (latest level) u.20053 was removed and u.20054 was identified as a remnant patch of floor and makeup. It is more likely this was left after previous excavations, but it also m ight have been a layer of makeup between plaster floor levels in this area. The layers appears to extend from the SW corner of space 135 and also appears to overlay more layers of plaster as well. Removal of this layer will help us understand the stratigraphy and spatial relationships of the different plastering events in this corner of the building, and how they relate to the plastering events in the location of the former oven base (which overlay the larger make up/dirty floor layer which is locking in the next hearth and platform sequences).
