Unit 20094
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Plaster cap over possible burial cut
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: Layer is a thin deposit of plaster over a possible burial cut in the NE corner of platform F.3441.
Discussion: Layer was identified after U. 18989, plaster floor layer on F. 3441, was removed and an outline of a cut and fill were identified under a plaster cap-like layer that did not extend past the cut outline. It's possible this layer was meant to cover the area around the cut and patch it up/prepare it for the replastering of another floor. Also it is possible that this layer served a less functional purpose in marking or memorializing the cut as the location of a burial. In this area of B. 80 there appears to be a pattern of plaster caps over child/infant burials (F. 7404, 7405, 7406) so this plaster cap could have been a practice at some point in the house.
