Discussion: This layer represents a deposit of burnt building material, with few artifacts. It was at first difficult to discern from the surrounding units, but removing it revealed the total extent of our curved wall f. 3981-- which gives us a new space number (493)!
Recognition: clear-- burnt building material in NE corner
Definition: defined by walls, N & E boundaries of trench
Execution: trowel, hoe, pick
Condition: warm, shaded
Consistency: loose to friable
Colour: many colors: black, greyish brown, orange
Texture: burned mud brick and mortar
Bedding: compound
Inclusions: LOTS of mud brick, pottery, bone
Post-depositional Features: animal burrows, burning was post-deposition
Basal Boundary: finding total extent of wall f. 3963!
