Unit 20614
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Patchs of a succession of plaster layer
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: The southern part of platform 3694 was more affected by fire. Thus, colour and consistency are different between north and south of the same layer.
Same configuration as arbitrary layer u.20615 on platform F.3695 (remaining patches of floating stratified plaster layers + make up after erosion of the platform since its last excavation in 2006).
Discussion: This arbitrary layer is formed by several strafied floatig patches of plaster layers. It is the remain of the erosion of the top of the platform F.3694 since 2006 (when it had been excavated the last time). The erosion is particulary strong in the south area which was very affected by the burning of building 52 and thus very soft/friable.
Its base is the limit of the first plaster layer we were able to follow on the whole surface of the platform despite its erosion (except for the center of the depression affecting the platform surface).
This layer abuts the kerb F.3693 and seems to have been deposited after the construction of this kerb.
This layer covers the cut u.30502 and its fill u.30503 (burial F.7127), but it it is possible that this feature cuts the lowest plaster layer of this layer. However, such a possibility cannot be verified due to erosion of the platform and layer u.30508 should be seen as the original layer in wich burial F.7127 was dug.
Consistency: South : loose. North : firm
Colour: south : black to dark grey (almost blueish)
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: Compound layered : several plaster + make-up. Continuous layers sinking into toward cut u.30502 (burial of the center of the platform).
Inclusions: none
Post-depositional Features: Depression in the center due to burial. Heavily burnt during the building 52 fire.
Basal Boundary: Plaster layer u.30508 (constructional /sharp) + cut u.30502

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
