Interpretive Categories: mixed burial fill 

 

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous

 

Discussion: This was a fill that was first removed by SH as a mixed fill focusing on the SE corner of the platform. It was then a unit number used by BT for the infill surrounding skeleton 19557, as the burial fill of this individual could not be differentiated from the surrounding context. No plans were made although the sketch on this unit sheet shows which bits of burial infill within platform 6051 was included in this unit. The northern and southern parts of the mixed infill actually represent burial infills that belong to other features excavated (or rather not fully so) in 2011. 

 

Consistency: Friable 

Colour: Greyish brown 

Texture: silty clay loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal, phytoliths, plaster flecks, charcoal specs 

Post-depositional Features: salt concretions, animal and plant activity 

Basal Boundary: diffuse
