Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: posthole; Deposition: heterogeneous

 

Discussion: The unit was recognised as an infill of the oak posthole (F.3870) located in southern part of Trench 4, directly west of a large oven (F.8278) and platform (F.8275). It was within the cut (U. 20774). It was placed the fire installation (F.3860). The infill was made mostly of charcoal – oak and loose sand. There was only one x-find found – a polished stone. The entire layer was sampled for flotation. 

 

Consistency: Loose 

Colour: Mixed - brown, grey, orange 

Texture: Sand mostly, clay 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Charcoal - large 

Post-depositional Features: None 

Basal Boundary: Wavy, hard to define, faint
