Unit 20804

Category: Layer    dug in 2013

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Plaster infill/cover in burial

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted

Discussion: The borders of the layer were clear in plan because of its whiter complexion. Also, the interfaces towards underlaying layer was distinct because of difference in colour and texture. It seemed at first probable that it was the last plaster layer in the burial cut before the actual infill which contained the skeleton, but further down yet another plaster layer was encountered in the cut. The sloping towards the eastern middle becomes more distinct or sharp with every layer which is removed. The layer was removed by trowel.

Consistency: Soft/friable

Colour: Light beige

Texture: Silt/chalc plaster

Bedding: Massive

Inclusions: Flecks of wall plaster with red paint, small crumbs of burnt clay, flecks of charcoal; all <1%

Post-depositional Features: It has sunk down inte the middle/eastern middle and cracked

Basal Boundary: Disticnt interface towards underlaying layer, on which it is spread, but at the same time the plaster goes down into the infill in small spots (compare with u.20803 in this matter).
