Discussion: This layer, consisting of plaster, is partly covering the south side of platform F.3507, but continues up on the surface of the platform, in the corner which is cut by a post retrieval pit. The platform has deep cracks in that part and I would say it is at least partly because the platform has been exposed during many years of the excavation. At the same time the plaster seems to continue down deeper here, which may suggest it was put there partly to mend the platform and that the cracks were formed already during the use of the platform, where it was in contact with the post when it was still standing.

I stopped removing the layer at a level I felt was separated by 1.) a new make-up layer on top of the platform F.3507 and 2.) it was separated by the next layer on top of F.3508. However, it must be said that the stratigraphic relations to especially the units in platform F.3508 were difficult to discern, and that I rather have the feeling of constant replastering and perhaps make-ups on F.3507 and F.3508 respectively, overlaying each other again and again. U.20814, however, was pure plaster.

Consistency: Firm

Colour: White

Texture: Silt-clay

Bedding: Partly layered (thin layers visible on the south side of the NE platform F.3507) and partly massive (in relation to the surface of the platform cracks in this and a post retrieval pit east of u.20814).

Inclusions:

Post-depositional Features: Severe cracks, deep in the platform. Probably due to (or worsened by) having been exposed for many years during excavation

Basal Boundary: Partly obscure towards underlaying plasters, but in the north part it was clearly separable to the make up layer underneath.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
