Unit 20847

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Fill of plastered scoop

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: scoop; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit

Discussion: This unit was apparent in plan as a circular layer of compact grey clay loam, and was removed carefully by trowel until the clear layer below of clean white plaster appeared. The feature seems to be a scoop in the floor (rather than an intentional modeling) and this fill may represent a packing to create the floor above (u. 20849). It was truncated by the post retrieval pit to the west (7000).

Consistency: Compact

Colour: Grey

Texture: Clay

Bedding: Massive

Inclusions: Very minimal ash and charcoal

Post-depositional Features: Cut by post retrieval pit

Basal Boundary: Very clear-- sudden appearance of stark white plaster
