Unit 20855
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Floor plaster
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: single; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This unit represents the clean white floor plaster under makeup u. 20852, though it was cut into for burial f. 7015. It is quite well preserved, though differentially thick (thickest where it meets the two eastern platforms and thinning out to the west). In some places, there was no makeup preserved underneath and we came down directly upon clean (earlier) floor plaster. As with the other layers of floor in this space, u. 20855 was extremely clean and no finds were recovered (though some small fragments of bone were noted in the flotation sample). It is assumed to be the same unit as u. 20857 (on the eastern half of platform f. 3508) but this will need to be verified in post-ex, since the units are separated in space and the exact sequence of floor laminations is difficult to track.
