Unit 21322
Category: Cut dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: cut of posthole F.2173
Data Category Information: Description: posthole
Discussion: The cut of posthole F.2173 has a very particular subrectangular shape. The carbonised post in it has the same shape. It could be a plank-shaped post. Moreover, the cut of F.2173 is oblique to the south. The post was thus possibly slightly tilting to the north (i.e. to the end of wall F.2007) (What was seen as the southern end of F.2007 was documented as being part of the later wall F.2032 in 2005. Indeed this last could have a part of F.2007 edge. The two interpretations are possible and excavation is necessary to judge. This supports the impression that the post of F.2173 was abutting the truncated end of wall F.2007 and maybe even holding it.
2015 : the excavation of the post retrieval pit 7770 gave the impression that as the two previous posts (associated with older phase of sp. 94 : floor 21390) were removed (in order to built floor 21310), the posts 21323 and 21315 were installed (the base is very clear after excavation f infill 31404). In this case : cuts 21322 and 21316 are not proper cuts but more the imprint of the post after the construction of 21310 (filling up all aound the post). Indeed their stability is not really an issue since they are sitting on top of very solid wall material (top of truncated wall 1580 and 2007 atvthe bottm of pit 7770).
