Unit 21682

Category: Layer    dug in 2015

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: burial infill

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous

Discussion: Burial infill 21682 was assigned as a result of identifying the outline of cut - u21683 around the bones belonged to sub-adult individual (sk21681). The mentioned circumstances occurred after excavating human remains of adult (sk21679) placed above within the arbitrary infill u21680.
Significance of the burial rites recognized within the feature 7860 constitutes the amount of burial goods that had been recorded under the unit number of the infill (u21634_X1-X15) among whom one I enumerate: two perforated shell (pendants) X2, X9, X13, and number of diverse kinds of stone beads that were collected according to the place of discovery as separated clusters recorded under subsequent no. of X-find:
X1 – under the cranium (red stone beads)
X2 – nearby the neck (shell pendant)
X3 – nearby the ribs (red + green + white stone beads)
X4 – thorax (black + red stone beads)
X5 – neck / shoulder (red stone beads)
X6 – near left forearm (green + black + white stone beads)
X7 – near left forearm (copper bead with a preserved string inside)
X8 – right leg (white stone beads)
X9 – shell pendant
X10 – right shoulder (red + black stone beads)
X11 – under the shoulder (green stone beads)
X12 – under right knee (white stone beads)
X13 – left shoulder (shell pendant)
X14 – near neck (stone beads)
X15 – under neck (stone beads)

The position and alignment of the beads (above the human remains and below them) might indicate that originally they constituted several strings placed on particular part of the body or more possibly they were stringed on one long thread that was bound around. Along with the above mentioned, a phytolith sample had been collected from the bottom of the infill (S4_21682).
