Unit 21701
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Plaster Cap on cut n F. 3442
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: Layer is a small circular cap-like deposit of plaster under makeup U. 20096 and on top of burial cut and fill F. 7405 (U. 21704 and 21705), and is truncated by Mellaart at the NE edge of platform F.3442.
Discussion: Unit identified under makeup U. 20096 due to very fine and homogenous plaster. Was therefore distinguishable from the eroded floor below 20096 on the S edge of the platform. Abuts cut and makeup layer that cut is into. If burial is present, the layer may represent a practice of marking burials. May be unique to children/infants given the pattern in this area.
