Unit 21762
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: plaster flooring event on lower ledge of platforms
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: pedestal/podium/plinth; Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Unit is a layer of plaster floor located on a lower-ledge or step-like construction on the western edges of the main platorm (F. 3440), the bench (F. 3439), and the small platform-like construction directly north of the main platform (U. 21737). The unit is extremely thin and eroded and patchy plaster lapping up onto the western sloped edges of the bench and platform constructions, as well as on top of the orangey makeup/preparation layer (perhaps associated with the main platform) and down onto a small ledge/step that leads w. to the main floor area. The purpose of this platser layer seems to be to connect the platser floor layers of the main space features with the plaster flooring events of the main floor. It must have occurred after the main area plaster flooring events (U. 21763) and (U. 21759) as well as the main platform plaster layers of U. 21738. It also lapped onto the dirty floor layers of the sunken floor in the dirty space of the building (U. 21748). The ledge plaster may have been a cosmetic addition to the division between the platforms and the main floor in order to preserve and connect the look of plaster in the clean area of B. 80.
