Unit 21766
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Patchy plaster & make-up layers from sunken floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This unit consisted of a patchy layer of grey and highly eroded plaster and make-up. Unit 21766 was sealed by another packed dirty floor layer (U.21748). Unit was recognized as another compound layer from sunken floor area located directly south of the bench (F.3439).
Similarly to previously excavated units from the sunken floor area (see U.21748, U.21722) this layer clearly lap up onto the platform/raised area on its E side (F.7401) and bench structure to the N.
Unit 21766 seemed to be preserved only in the eastern part of sunken floor area and sealing much more heterogeneous layer with many organic inclusions. It depends on proximity to the hearth structure F.7402. The unit was therefore distinguishable from the eroded and partially burned dirty floor below.
