Interpretive Categories: pit infill

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: heterogeneous

Discussion: 21844 refers to the infill of pit F8026, which is located in the southern side of sp. 170, almost 5 cm south-east from pit F8029.
F8026 was covered by the make-up layers related to the construction of platform F558 and cut phase E floors. (NB: since both features were removed with the same unit, 21827, it is important to indicate that the number in the matrix refers to phase E floors only).
With an oval shape (0.35x0.30 m) and a depth of almost 0.17 m, the pit seems to be too little to be associated to any structural function. Due to the presence of a little circular cut on the bottom of the main one, as well as to its limited dimensions, it is possible that the pit was originally a cache. Despite this hypothesis, no significant object have been found in 21844, that is only associated to some random stones.

Consistency: friable

Texture: upper infill (4-5 cm thick) has a high sand (0.1-0.3 cm thick) concentration; lower infill is sandy-clay
