Unit 21859
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Fill of fire installation
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: hearth; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This layer represents the infill of fire installation F.8028 which is located in S/W of space 170. It contains a cluster of stones and clay balls and a lot of charcoal. The stones and clay balls help to stock the temperature for cooking. We note that method used in the earlier levels in catalhoyuk.
21859 was covered by an upper basin (F586) and was cut into a make-up layer (21860) related to fire installation F8028 construction itself. According to this year startegy the overlying feature 586 was excavated with unit number 21827, which has also been attributed to other features and to the floor of phase E. This said, 21827 reported in this matrix refers to basins-feature 586 only.
