Unit 21914
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: dirty floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: raised area (platform); Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Description: The dirty floor appeared as a heterogeneous layer composed of patches of burnt clay and grey areas with inclusions of charcoal.
Discussion: When the layer has been removed, we uncovered part of the earlier hearth of B.89 (yet to be excavated). The northern edge of the floor covered the basement of the bench (F.2476). For this reason, we excavated the dirty floor first in order to unlock the bench. The layer underneath the dirty floor (yet to be excavated) appeared as a cleaner grey layer. Preliminary analysis done by the palaeobotanics specialists have shown that the soil sampled was actually very poor in phytoliths and other organic materials, indicating that the floor was used for a short period.
