Unit 22358
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Bin Fill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The infill layer of the bin was very compact with a big pieces of collapsed plaster, probably from the walls, and also remains of bricks, mortar and make up. Were also visible small pieces of charcoal. The fill was very hard to remove so we used the small mattock, and we stopped when we found a very thin layer of plaster, with patches of makeup. The layer of plaster that we exposed, was clearly connected with the bin walls U22357 mostly at the west part of the feature. So, for all this reasons, we decided to stop the excavation of the infill at that point. Regarding to the fill, the composition was very similar to the room infill (U22353), so maybe the bin was empty when they abandon the space, and was filled with the room infill and with the collapse of the own walls.
When we was done with the infill, we realize that under the wall bin U22365 was visible the remains of another very thin plaster layer (U22361) impossible to see during the digging process of the infill.
Consistency: Firm and compact
Colour: Dark brown
Texture: The layer was a composition of collapsed plaster possible for the bin walls, clay and silt. The percentage of plaster was around 20-30 %. There was also parts of mud brick and morter around 10 %,
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Aggregates like brick, mortar and wall plaster, natural stones and salt
Post-depositional Features: Salt, insect disturbance
Basal Boundary: Diffuse

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
