Unit description: D1 is a pendant that appears to be a genuine red deer 'wolf tooth' upper canine. The unit sheet refers to a flotation sample from this unit, but we can find no trace and the flot log does not record one being processed. Therefore we have only the dry-sieved material to work with. This is a small-moderate amount of material, fairly fragmented but not tiny pieces and a few up to 7-10 cm. It is mostly sheep-size scrap, with some large mammal. Diagnostics are mostly sheep/goat but include cattle, fox, and hare. There is a mandible and a maxilla from an infantile sheep/goat, and a metapodial from a perinatal one. All body parts are represented. There is a little burning and digestion. While a couple of cattle bones have a swampy patina, most of the surfaces are fairly fresh, although having suffered a little from proximity to the ground surface. There is a fragment each of bird and microfauna. There is perhaps some coherence in the young sheep/goat parts, and the generally fresh condition and presence of sizable pieces of delicate bones suggests a small portion of midden more than fill. Looks like mainly post-consumption discard. Last number = 88
