Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: plaster; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: This unit refers to the one and only surviving base of Oven F.7063 (S1 and S2) and to the making of this base (S3 and S4).
Discussion: U. 23254 is the base of Oven F.7063. It was very distinct, dark brown almost black, about a centimetre thick and it survived very well in the interior of this feature. It produced some charcoal but not apropriate for radiocarbon dating. The lowest part of this base was thicker (2-3 centimetres) and it was the packing, the make up of the base. It was loose at places and at places compact, and sandy.
Consistency: Friable
Colour: Dark brown, black at places
Texture: Clay on the top (base), sand at the bottom (make up of the base)
Bedding: Layered
Inclusions: 5 - 10% of organic remains
Post-depositional Features: Collapse of the oven's dome on top
Basal Boundary: Leveled, abrupt, prominent, even between base and making of base, uneven between making of base and floor.
