Unit 2562
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Room fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Discussion: Ashy dump sloping steeply down to the S over other mixed deposits- similar to 2561 but more compact. Clearly, as with 2561, this layer represents a rapid infill of a deliberately mixed material specifically for infilling a 'dead' house. The layer was stopped when a very coherent floor was reached associated with the W face plaster of a new partition wall on the same alignment as F.3.
Execution: pick and trowel
Condition: hot and dry
Consistency: moderately firm
Colour: 10 YR 6/6 brownish yellow, to 3/1 very dark grey
Texture: silty loam
Bedding: compound layered and massive
Inclusions: charcoal (<1 %); salts (c. 1 %); bone <1 %; plaster fragments (<1 %)
Post-depositional Features: none
Basal Boundary: very sharp, distinct, flat
