Unit 2658
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 1.8m (N-S)x1.30m (E-W)
Discussion: Continue digging at the SE corner of building 10. The aim is to remove floor F.117 and to reach and uncover floor F.140. Two baulks were left to the north and the east of the unit 20 cm wide so to be able to watch the stratigraphy of the floors. At the east side of the unit floor F.140 goes abruptly deeper. It is possible to form the face of a platform lying along the east wall (F.102) of building 10. The surface of floor F.140 is uneven and partly burnt specially near the area of the oven (F.111). Flotation samples are taken from the area near the oven and from the area along the face of the uncertain yet platform (F.143). After clearing the east borders of the oven (F.111) we were able to see that the oven ends above floor F.140. A black line of ash which is also found above floor F.140, bounds the west borders of the oven. At the west end of the unit, north of oven F.111, a white plastered face with traces of red paint possibly belonging to a hearth, was found. It is contemporary with floor F.140. Possibly is an earlier phase of the hearth that was found last year (F.123).
