Area: South

Interpretive Categories: Burial Fill,Room Fill

Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 0.56 m x c.0.15 m thick

Discussion: Burial infill - mostly defined and initial recognition due to exposure of burial. Worked from bones and although no definite cut was ever truly defined, I'm fairly happy (85% certain) of cut because of the way most of the deposit broke away from the sides, their regularity and verticality. The base was OK too and fairly regular.

Although this was excavated as if sealed by 2716, it was more likely cut through 2716.

Recognition: No obvious deposit recognition, slightly more grey brick aggregate inclusions and slightly rougher surface but mostly excavated by defining skeleton.

Definition: Defined by working from visible bones.

Execution: Followed bones, therefore worked from centre to edge in plan by leaf and trowel.

Condition: Dry at top, slightly moist by the base, very hard and clayey.

Consistency: Moderately hard.

Colour: 10 YR 5/4, 5/6 Yellowish brown.

Texture: Clayey silt (40:60)

Bedding: Massive.

Inclusions: 2% medium sized fragments of grey brick aggregate; 2% medium and small plaster fragments; 1% small fragments and flecks of charcoal.

Post-depositional Features: Cracked and root activity.

Basal Boundary: Diffuse, shares characteristics with underlying and surrounding deposit, fairly even horizen.
