Unit 30015
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: White plaster on oven superstructure
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Thin layer of white plaster extending towards the back of the superstructure but without reaching it, as the bottom of the oven has a thin layer of alluvial clay packing. This plaster was probably deposited to mark the closure of the oven, as seen in similar fire installations of other buildings. The abundance of charcoal and phytoliths is not due to manufacture techniques but to the nature of the closure infill, U.22128, very rich in plant remains, which left plant imprints and macro-remains stuck to the plaster above.
In addition to the plaster, a thin (ca. 0.3cm) layer of alluvial make-up was also removed, lying immediately underneath the plaster.
