Unit 30525
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: 4 plaster + make-up (of platform 3694?)
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: plaster; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This layer incorporates 4 plaster layers + make-up identical to each other, and stops on the top of a very different plaster layer (much thicker and painted in red, cf. unit 30528).
The kerb F.3693 should have been excavated first. Indeed, during the removing of u.30525, we realized that all the 4 layers are running beneath the kerb. This last is thus laying on top of u.30525. We were not able to excavate this part of u.30525 running under the kerb (and maybe more). A section was let in situ. The kerb has to be excavated next year (2014) in order to understand this continuation of u.30525 and its relation with the platform F.3695 across the kerb. It is for instance possible that u.30525 doesn't belong to platform F.3694 anymore but to a larger single platform at the emplacement of both F.3695 and F.3694… This problem has to be resolved in priority next year by the removal of the kerb and the continuation of the excavation of platform F.3695 until this level.
Consistency: South : loose. North : firm
Colour: South : dark brown to dark grey. North : light brown to white
Texture: Silty clay
Bedding: Compound layered : 4 layers of plaster + make-up. Very thin plaster, very thick make-up for all this 4 layers which are very similar. The plaster is more whitish, the make-up is more brownish.
Inclusions: none
Post-depositional Features: On the north-east part of platform F.3794, just next to the wall F.1877, the upper layers of u.30525 mark a depression (sinking of F.1577?). This depression has been filled up with fragments of groundstone when u.30508 was built (cf. unit 30508 for discussion and interpretation).
Basal Boundary: Plaster layer painted in red u.30528 + infill in eastern and southern part (u.30528 truncated, cf. u.30528)

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
