Unit 30606
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Room Infill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The layer was recognised because of the firm consistency which differed from the surrounding u.30604, with its friable consistency and content of organic material (u.30604). It was spared from the "well-known" overcut of the walls in Mellaart's excavations, because of its position at the corner. The shape of the 'posthole' is rectangular e-w 0.35m x n-s 0.10m.
On reflection this layer is probably not a posthole fill. The squareish shape seems more likely to be the result of 'fortuitous' plaster tumble on the south side, maybe associated with the original abandonment sequence, truncated by Mellaart.
Consistency: Firm.
Colour: Brown.
Texture: Silt.
Bedding: Massive.
Inclusions: Occasional painted plaster fragments & charcoal flecks.
Post-depositional Features: None noted.
Basal Boundary: Very sharp.
