Unit 32039
Category: Cut dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: burial cut
Data Category Information: Description: burial
Discussion: A burial cut U.32039 was recorded within the central part of the E-platform F.7734 as irregular oval outline of WE alignment that truncated noticeably the surface of white plaster. During the exploration of the infill 32040 which sealed the cut it appeared that the sides of the pit were undercut and the top of the opening (52cm x 65cm) was smaller than its base (65cm x 72cm). The bell-shape cut U.32039 evidenced within burial F.7734 shares resemblance with others commonly recorded funeral features on the site. However, the undercutting within presented example was irregular and it remained dissymmetric. The base was concave and along N and NE parts there was a step identified which comprised of a long crescent ledge that raised up to 5cm above the lowest point of the cut.
Shape: irregular oval
Sides: undercuting
Base Break: sharp, stepped in N and NE parts of the cut
Base: long concave depression through the whole extent of the cut
Orientation: EW
