Unit 3294
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: bin infill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.65 m W-E x 0.65 m N-S x depth varies 0.9 to 0.3 m
Discussion: First layer of infilling in bin F234 in space 157. Large deposit of plaster was noticed in the infill, just underneath this is a 'greasy' deposit, probably the base of the bin. Actually this was not the base of the bin, more fill was found and given a separate unit number (3299), as it is noticeably different from this unit.
Recognition: Part of fill in bin F234.
Definition: Defined by bin walls.
Execution: Trowel, half sectioned.
Condition: Slightly moist.
Consistency: compact bit friable when crushed
Colour: 10 YR 4/4 dark yellowish brown
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: brick?/bin wall? fragments 20% 5-10 cm, charcoal 5% 2-5 mm frag. plaster pieces (large deposit, psso. wall, collapse 20%)
Post-depositional Features: none
Basal Boundary: contrast sharp, surfaces are smooth and regular in form (colour varies), fairly level

Unit description: This material is from flotation only; it is a fill from bin 3 in Building 5. It is a very small unit; all the bone is from sheep-sized animals or smaller, and includes a molar fragment, a long bone fragment, and a rib end from a juvenile sheep-sized animal. One small fragment is digested, and two are burnt. Sample 3, which came in later, is flotation material from a fill of bin 3 in B. 5. We have 4mm only, which contains one piece of flat bone (probably cranial) from a small sheep or dog-sized animal. It is battered and worn and its broken edges are very eroded and abraded. The material from sample 2 is slightly battered, but the rib end and its detached epiphysis were found in articulation; therefore this piece at least was fleshed when deposited. F3-4 exported for radiocarbon dating 2007.Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
