Discussion: This inner repair or underpinning consists of heterogeneous material. It seems more like a fill inside the outer repair which was more homogenous. The outer surface of (3298) was very even and smooth. Easy distinguishable from (3296). But towards the S end some material in (3298) looked just like the material in (3296).
At the bottom an obsidian point was found lying N-S with the point towards the S. It was lying on the surface under (3253). The floor under the repair has been protected and the plaster is still intact. It looks as if it joins the plaster of the W wall.
Small animal bones were found (in hundreds) in the fill next to the wall. Samples taken for flotation and one cluster still in a lump of the fill. Does this represent some owl droppings? If it does, is it in situ or is the fill taken from somewhere else? It does not seem to have been an open space at this time, considering the plastered floor.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: All the bone in this unit is from flotation samples and is from space 156 in bld 5 (Oasa's area). This unit has an extremely high concentration of very fragmentary microfauna, the analysis of which awaits a specialist. At time of recording I have only samples 2, 3, and 4; I think more may turn up, but the sorting is slow due to the volume of microfauna. The material from sample 4 is quite weathered (exposed to the elements before deposition), in contrast to 2 and 3. About 10% (by bulk) is burnt; somewhat less is digested. The 1mm and 2mm sorts contain copious microfauna, as well as fish scales and bones, and aquatic snail shells (probably from the limeplaster). The 4mm contains the distal end of a sheep humerus, in very good condition, which seems different from the rest of the unit. There is some costal cartilage, an accessory carpal (which is digested), and long bone fragments, all from a sheep-sized animal. Last number = 22
