Discussion: (3901) represents the most substantial section of F.289 to the southern half of it's extent. It was composed of several different materials (a - e) but removed as a single unit, since these seemed to have been put in place roughly at the same time in the construction of a raised ledge seperating the south western corner of the room (and contemporary oven) from the remainder of building 2. It's construction seems to have been more complex at the southern end ( a small section was left to examine this). This could be explained by it's proximity to the southern wall of building 2 - for example it may have formed an edge to a larger structure in this area which was removed whern the post retrieval cut to it's left was dug. Otherwise it seems to have been constructed to contain the 'dirty' deposits which lie in between the floors, that it surrounds, perhaps to prevent these spreading to the 'cleaner' area to the east.
