Discussion: Mortar for wall 415. Irregular thickness occurs to accomodate slope of wall + similar to bricks the mortar is used to level off the horizon before next layer of bricks laid. Interface of bricks + mortar has a film of slat +/0r phytolith suggesting that straw was strewn between layers of brick + mortar. 

 

Recognition: clear horizons of brick + mortar

Condition: damp through overnight rain, heavily eroded since 60's + disturbed by animal + root holes 

Consistency: soft + friable 

Colour: mid reddy yellow brown 

Texture: fine sandy silt (10:90)

Inclusions: <1% small-med stone 

Post-depositional Features: roots + animal holes 

Basal Boundary: clear, sharp, constructional
