Unit 4467
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor layers?
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mixed; Deposition: composite (floor/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Dimensions: 0.68m N-S ; 0.15m ; 0.06m ( max. depth )
Discussion: (4467) was a remnant of floor layers attached to the W. face of wall F.447. Initially in section, the layers were not very clearly defined, but became so during ex. There were seven layers - a 5mm ash/charcoal deposit at base, overlain by light brown clayey silt (5-10 mm) , overlain by orangey brown clayey silt, then light brown, then orangey brown, then a thin line of off-white plaster, then a slightly thicker pale brown clayey silt. Following the line of slope from S. down to N., (4467) appears to be in phase with floor layers (4466).
Recognition: multi-colored floor layers
Definition: boundaries with upper & lower deposits clearly defined by colour
Execution: sectioned and troweled
Condition: v. slightly moist
Consistency: firm
Colour: l. to mid brown/orangey-l.brown/off-white plaster/grey/black ash and charcoal
