Dimensions: 4.6m+ w-e, 1.8m+ n-s, 0.02 to 0.08m thick 

 

Discussion: Thick quite homogenous band. Deliberate dum,p to raise height. As it occure between 'stabling' deposits (4716) and (4719) could conditions on the surface have become so bad it was decided to create better surface by raising height with (4718). 

 

Recognition: no fine bands / not sticky 

Definition: arbitrary / deep sounding 

Execution: trowel and mattock 

Condition: moist 

Consistency: soft 

Colour: mid greyish brown 

Texture: clayey silt / silty clay depending on place 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: frequent plant impressions, occasional bone frags / clay balls / stone, moderate charcoal flecks 

Post-depositional Features: deep sounding, burroes, insects 

Basal Boundary: distinct, anthropogenic, smooth, sloping down to west
