Discussion: (4760) was the compact, burnt layer that formed the base/lining of an oven (F524). It formed a smooth surface but inclined slightly from west to east and from south to north and was thicker towards the north east. It seems to have been associated with the latest use of this oven. 

 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: dark reddish-brown 

Texture: burnt silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: 20% burnt/silicated plant material, 5% charcoal, <2% stone 

Post-depositional Features: none obvious 

Basal Boundary: clear but irregular
