Dimensions: 0.76m (N-S) x 0.37m (E-W) x 0.04m thick 

Discussion: Small patch of material towards the south-east corner of Space 173, originally thought to have been either floor or post-hole fill. Excavation showed it to be only a shallow deposit with no apparent cut, it is therefore more likely to have been the former, though no layering was wvident. 

Recognition: Block of layers above more general floor 

Definition: Clear edge with underlying floors 

Execution: Trowel from edges 

Condition: Dry and firm, possibly truncated 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Mottled pale grey and light brown 

Texture: Silty clay 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: <5% charcoal flecks, small bone and medium clay ball fragments 

Post-depositional Features: Some root and insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: Clear, smooth, anthropic
