Dimensions: v. approx 0.30m N-S; 0.40m E-W; up to 0.01m thick 

 

Discussion: Originally this was dug as part of unit (4739). It consisted of a thin layer of scorched/burnt material which at the time I thought went with the oven demolition underneath. But subsequently realised that I dug some units out of sequence and that the point where I went wrong was the digging of (4739) - or specifically the oven demolition material which in fact was cut by (4958) 

 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: dark brown 

Texture: silt? 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: occ.- mod. flecks & small frags. of charcoal
