Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded

 

Dimensions: 3.80 m x 1.33 m x max depth c. 0.35 m 

 

Discussion: Originally it was thought that this layer was in fact room fill of the room space defined by walls F829. However, although (5451) above was certainly more roomfill in nature, this layer was much more akin to be midden deposits excavated to the east. It was noted also that the walls actually sit on top of this deposit hence this building may have been constructed upon an earlier (consolidated) midden. This would make sense and also the lenses within the midden do appear more flattened out.

Note: Original Unit Sheet filled out with Area West - this is incorrect it is South. (SAJ 2008) 

 

Recognition: Initially recognized as fill between two double N-S running mudbrick wall 

Definition: defined as roomfill initially 

Execution: mattock, shovel 

Condition: generally hot, dry, and sunny 

Consistency: hard compact 

Colour: heterogeneus, varies from greyish brown ---- orange to brownish black and speckle with charcoal flicks 

Texture: clayish silt in general 

Bedding: layered 

Inclusions: very frequent animal bone ---- Also freq clay balls, stone is very ---- as in the obsidian. Occ figurine fragments, beads and bone points very frequent. Stone like inclusions are in fact very similar to those one would expect from midden 

Post-depositional Features: roots 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary, reached 1009.70
