Discussion: 04/08/99 This is the continuation of work in space 88. After cleaning from the xxxx dirt it was decided to assign a new unit number to the space between the south wall of space 88 and the internal wall in this space. Te previous (above) unit was 2268, that was excavated in the whole space 88. The layer was full of charcoal remains, occasional plaster lumps, burnt ground stones, burnt bricks (clay?). It seems as the area was packed with this material and bricky soil in order to consolidate the small internal wall-bin. It is a working hypothesis at the moment. The area was excavated app. 10 cm deep and one of the interesting finds is almost whole cattle (young) mandible. Also S#3x4, are stones that , at least more securely in the case of S#4, could have been powdered in this space for red and green(?) colors. A similar hypothesis was put forward the previous year (1998) since a lump of red ocher was found on the other side of the wall. In the SW corder three obsidian flakes were found almost in the same area, and these were x-finded as an obsidian cluster. Also, one strip of grayish soil appeared probably in connection with the internal wall, which would become clear matter. Also part of the SW corner was left still not completely cleaned up to the wall last year. This area was excavated now and the material coming from this cleaning that originally belonged to units 2266 and 2268 was put together with the rest of material in this unit (6126). In the upper layer next to the wall, pieces of red painted wall plaster were found. These pieces probably fell in from the layers above.
08/08/99. The space between the inner wall and the south wall was taken down to the floor of a possible bin that had a small wall connected to the inner wall on its eastern side. It seems that the whole space 88 was replastered several times and the floor in this area is rather crude and at many spots disturbed by large rodent holes. Also the floor consists of either greyish or red compact soil. This kind of red plaster (?) was found along SW corner on the walls of the space too. App. 5 cm. above the floor from the southern wall a horncone imprint was found consisting of salt that formed the shape of a horncone, ie its half. At certain spots and in the rodent holes, it is possible to see a layer of black charred remains/ charcoal underneath a relatively thin layer of floor/surface.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: X7 is a whole right mandible of a young cattle that is found in the unit that represents infilling of a bin in space 88 (BACH area) - the area between the south wall and the small inner wall in this space. Although the mandible was whole in situ, it fragmented into several pieces at the time it was picked up. F1 is a complete point. LY 2001: A small unit containing bones that have not suffered as much fragmentation as usual. Sheep/goat, cattle were identified in the dry sieve material. The bones of a relatively complete rodent were pulled as was a single fish. NR 2003: Found more dry-sieved and flotation material. The dry sieved material consists of assorted hunks of scrap, slightly weighted to the large mammal. There is a little burning and digestion, and surface condition is somewhat variable but mostly fairly good. Could be dirty fill. Sample 2 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. it is a moderate size sample, mostly small crumbles of mostly sheep-size scrap. Some pieces range up to 3 cm. The composition and condition generally mirror the dry sieved material, with the addition of several fish bones.
