Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fire installation
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Photo : 99T, 99T824:1-3, 99T824:10-15
Began by removing east section down to a harder packed clay surface. When the top clay of the area was removed there were many phytoliths & ashy excavated bits ??? in a thin layer of ash visible in the profile. After drawing & photo, began to remove west section down to same level. Cross sectioned it again and saw a thin plaster layer - mostly in north area - more damaged in south. Tried to follow plaster floor layer but it didn't continue westward. Removed all fill finding two stones near base of ill- same type of stones as earlier up on this features surface (white stones). Removed all fill finding a layer of salts on the semi compact earth base.
This fire installation was dug into the second house floor. The cut is of roundish form and rather shallow.

Unit description: No material from the dry sieve. Sample 2 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. This is a small sample with a largish sheep/goat radius fragment and a small collection of little bits, all fairly fresh. Looks like fill that may be catching remnants of daily meals, or an accumulation in a dip in the floor.
