Unit 6395
Category: layer dug in 2000
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor base
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: On the last level of F. 632, white plaster floor was removed. In every sense it matches floor dug as 6392. On southern side of unit, floor was mixed with very brown more silty deposit, akin to the one in N portion of F 630. However, removal of portion of floor between F 630 and the scoop of 632 it was seen that this brown (described here as 7.5 YR 7/4 bown) does not form a single level which would belong to a single , older fire installation. Instead, it appears to be separate parts, both standing on sloping scoops or cuts into packing which were then filled with fire installation fills and floors. Importantly for F. 632 however, is the fcat that having removed floor on which it was sitting one can still discern shallow depression in packing, onto which floor was plastered, and possibly only later in filled with fire installation, which would, in absence of deliberately made cut indicate somehow unplanned and oportunistic inception of that feature.
Added on the 14/08/00:
as the matter of fact brown more silty level continues even when floor proper was removed. Patch of that brown silt probably represents remains of scorch beneath the fire installation. It was app.20 cm in diam. And after it was emptied, cut in cleaner platform packing was still apparent and some 10 cm deep.
This zone was dug as a separate portion, and soil has been sent down to flotation as sample 7.
