Unit 6571
Category: layer dug in 2000
Area: Trench I
Interpretive Categories: Floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: L extended 1.80 not entire, W 1.30, depth 0.05m to surface
Discussion: There was a subtle change in the soil from lumpy clayish mudbrick collapse room fill to a softer undulating possibly slight beaten surface. This is just a trampled surface that would appear to define two different phases within space 193. It comes on to the top of plaster lined walls that mark the effective top of a thicker phase of the space
Recognition: less lumpy and mudbricky more gritty than horizon above 6558
Definition: defined by N S+ with mudbrick walls of space 193. Elevn definition more arbitury
Execution: trowel. Loaf, hand shovel
Condition: hot very windy, dusty and dry
Consistency: quite heterogeneous - varies from very hard and compact to very soft
Colour: light greyish brown 2.5Y 5/3 light olive brown has flecks of cream plaster and orangish daub in it
Texture: silty clay = 50% silt, 30% clay, 20% sand
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: chunks of plaster and small lumps of mudbrick occ small fleck of charcoal (c. 0.05%) some building fill - daub etc. Animal bone (quite large and dense) ca. 2-3% occ sherd (small) of pottery generally decorated ca. 1% no pebbles
