Unit 7226
Category: skeleton dug in 2001
Area: Trench I
Interpretive Categories: Skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Supine skeleton in Byzantine tomb (structure 7220, F726), oriented NE - SW, fully extended with arms by side and head tilted to left. Placed within wooden coffin, which still partly survives (along with a number of coffin nails (7221)). No apparent grave goods though some plaster-like material lies over some of the bones and in patches along the coffin edge. Plaster-like material later found to be phytolith, suggesting body in a shroud when buried. Sample of phytolith taken from coffin stain (7230, S1).
