Unit 7236
Category: Layer dug in 2001
Area: Trench I
Interpretive Categories: grave fill
Dimensions: NE-SW 2.02m NW-SE 0.8m
Discussion: Layer of mostly loose fill below coffin (7230) in grave. Curiously there is 0.12m of this deposit between the floor of one tomb and the coffin, suggesting the tomb had partly been filled before the body was interred. The fill also contained fragments of plaster from the tomb wall, further suggesting partial fill prior to interrment, and also that the tomb was open for some time (at least to allow the plaster to decay) before the body was finally laid to rest.
Recognition: layer of soft grave fill below coffin (7230)
Definition: within confines of tomb wall (7220)
