Discussion: Fill of a foundation trench built to support an external wall of a later building of a as yet undetermined date but probably hellenistic/classical. 

Recognition: Wall foundation visible after topsoil removed and area cleaned 

Definition: clear edges of deposit identified by colour and consistency 

Execution: A slot 0.25m wide was excavated through the deposit to determine its depth. Excavated with mattock/trowel 

Condition: Hot/dry 

Consistency: Compact 

Colour: Dark grey 

Texture: Clayey silt 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Occasional bone, occasional pot, frequent charcoal flecks 

Post-depositional Features: None visible in the portion of the deposit excavated
