Unit 7769
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: Trench I
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 2,6m x 0,8m x 0,15m
Description: Plaster on face is crumbly 5YR 8/2 with poss structure perhaps from against voids, 3-5cm thick in places.
Discussion: Initially hard to discern bricks or distinguish from possible mortar because so dry and crumbly - with soft areas caused by animal disturbance. Sample 2 was taken from the second 'skins' above 1008,15m.
Below this floor was a slight change so the number was changed (see (7774)).
This may well be remnant of a late wall built inside the earlier area which goes with the plaster surfaces in this space. This earlier wall to the N has either truncated almost up to the wall plaster or removed in error..
Recognition: Possible E-W wall with plaster surface to N but appears plaster surface goes beneath it so may be late structure - therefore decided to remove it.
Execution: Trowel
Condition: Dry
Consistency: Cloddy but relatively loose/crumbly.
Colour: 10YR 4/2
Texture: Silty clay
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Moderate-fine (c.5mm) plaster frags, occ fine charcoal, pot and bone relatively common for a wall.
Post-depositional Features: Some signs of animal disturbance and the odd root.
Basal Boundary: Uncertain and perhaps arbitrary.
