Discussion: Layer lying underneath basin-shaped plaster structure. Soft and brown in contrast to the underlying and overlying plaster layers.

Underlying layer gives the impression of having abutted the wall and thus may have been an earlier version of the basin. See later sheets for more details (may not relate to this season).

Layer variable in thickness and extent - sometimes less than 1mm thick - can be seen as perhaps a packing layer between the two plaster forms. Or it may simply represent the packing of the basin that was deposited onto a plaster floor surface.

Execution: by trowel and brush in plan 

Condition: very nice ! 

Consistency: friable 

Colour: light brown 

Texture: fine silty lime 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal <1% 

Post-depositional Features: none visible
