Interpretive Categories: Use of Hearth

Data Category Information: Description: fire spots (non-structured); Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: Semi-circular patch of material - thin souuthern semi-circular edge appears real - Northern edge may have been truncated but cant be sure of this (I truncated NE corner somewhat when excavating 8076)
As for use - maybe use of hearth? - but not really ashy or charcoaolly - think semi-circular edge i what suggested this to me - layers underneath that seem to have same N. Edge line as 8077 and same slight suggestion of scorching? On E. Side

Recognition: Difference in colour to 8076 - first recognised when accidentally took some off West corner when excavating 8076

Definition: well defined on North edge - more diffuse on South edge, but able to see in morning light

Execution: trowel

Condition: Dry

Consistency: Soft/friable

Colour: mid brown with some mid to dark grey patches

Texture: silt

Bedding: massive

Inclusions: Occasional flecks of charcoal - moderate flecks red/brown daub? Moderate flecks of plaster; occasional small stone (12mm red), occasional small fragments of bone

Post-depositional Features: lightly truncated by animal burrow also remains wooden peg - N. Edge (Greek?)

Basal Boundary: Abrupt, distinct, smooth, flat, rough
